Looking back at the preliminary task, what did you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
The simplistic ares of the preliminary task was understanding how to move the camera and how to angle it correctly to capture the desired framing, the difficulty invoked from developing match on action, it seemed to stem from invalid levels of perception as the problem I had was that the actor I had employed appeared to use her left hand to shut the door and then used her right hand to shut it and not in sequence so this derived a problem fortunately I had acquired a shot fortunately where the door had been shut with the same hand so we changed the point of the cut however it appeared rather disappointing, this helped us to take extra care in our final production as we had noticed after looking again small mistakes that we had made and we knew how to deal with them to create a better opening. Another problem was that the sound did not quite go together during the dialogue, this was hard however it did teach me that continuity must be checked with a fine toothed comb, and that as a producer more attention must be placed in the production in micro elements as well as macro elements. As a whole the prelim task did help but not enough with some requirements of the movie opening such as volume envelopes and other things that were needed but never covered in the preliminary task.
We learnt about in the preliminary task the 180 degree rule which was about not crossing the line in a shot reverse shot and this helped as we almost crossed the line in our major production but realized before we recorded it that we had broke the rule and would not get a decent enough mark for it.
Research and planning, as there was no actual audience for the product and was a practice their was no real research and planning needed to create a worthwhile product, instead we had been given a script to read out, as we where given the script it did not create and foundation to thew knowledge of how to make our own scripts later on.
We made storyboards for our preliminary task and our main task, since the storyboard process and usage is essentially the same minus the topic itself the concept is the same so the storyboard process and so the preliminary task one did prepare us and give some insight for the next time we do one and was good practice for the main tasks storyboard.
Construction, since we had used the editing software, cameras, boom mics and tripods for the preliminary task we were fairly familiar with the techniques and general usage for this equipment for our main task which helped our main task as we did not have to go over how to use the equipment and how to upload and edit it we could get started without many interruptions for learning how to do things, with the exception of complicated techniques such as creating and using a volume envelope.
Evaluation, We had to use blogger to upload to video to you tube and such so we practiced how to finish the clip by rendering and how to upload it to you tube, this helps our main task as we get familiar with blogger and the uploading process which meant we did not have to waste time learning about it, we could get on with it without any interruptions.

Evaluation Question 6
The technologies used in our media product is too broad a topic to cover so it is going to be split into research and planning, hardware and software, construction hardware and software, then finally evaluation hardware and software.
Research and planning, Hardware.
We had used a Panasonic GS500B, boom mic and tripod before but now it had been done in much more detail as we had to get many different camera shots for our production like a tilt etc, as some of this was not covered by this in the preliminary task. the tripod was obviously the same to use then the prelim task and was easy to use and understand as it only needed tweaking to change the rate of change of direction the camera focuses on. the camera was almost the same we had learnt most if not all basics aside from changing the focus manually but we understood that after a while. the boom mic was the same to however we had to learn that it works better when pointed in the direction of the point of origin of the sound to receive the sound better but after a quick revelation the recording equipment was mastered to use appropriately for our production.
This was used fluently throughout our production however as this is research and planning then it was only used to film the interviews that we had set up for target audience which involved a stationary camera and holding the boom mic to pick up sound so it wasn't used the most significantly in this stage.
We used a Hanns. G computer for the use of our blogger and other software's.
Research and planning, Software.
We used Google chrome for blogger, you tube, slide-share and Prezi.

Blogger, was hard to understand at first as all the different links that could have been clicked and an overwhelming user interface for someone who does not use the internet however after a while the useful paths become almost highlighted to you and it becomes a very simple process to use.
Prezi, this seemed to confuse some people and it seemed easy to some others as the user interface was simple however appeared busy and did not reveal designated paths as much as is necessary however this could not be helped so after a while of usage and some explaining was needed but eventually Prezi become something that was natural to all of us.
Google chrome is no real significance it is only used as an internet explorer.
Construction Hardware.
The hardware is mostly the same as the ones used for research and planning except in this we used a sound studio or sound booth, this was used for Foley sounds and to record a narrative, this was fairly easy as we found the sounds we wanted and produced it to the desired tempo and rhythm used for the production.
Construction Software.
This is where most of the evaluation can begin as we used Sony movie studio platinum 12.0, this was good as it was explained simply and developed a good understanding from the prelim task of how to use it as (similar to Prezi) there is a complicated and full user interface that derives from ubiquitous arrangement of various buttons and links etc,
However once asking teachers and a few you tube videos to explain volume envelopes the software became real easy to use, good however is something different the animation is hard to do as there is no real tutorials for this and it works on a timeline basis on a whole instead of being able to change individual scenes of animation the scene after must be returned to its factory settings as it messes up the whole film post scene animation. there was also a problem with crashing as the workload overloaded the CPU.
Evaluation hardware.
The Hanns G computer was used along with the apple macs however the apple macs are not as good as they do have a problem with uploads and publishing posts etc however the Hanns G from Nova-tech never really had any problems that so no problems were encountered in using them derived from the hardware itself.
Evaluation Software.
The only software used for this are the same in the research and planning, nothing more was needed as the evaluation only contained Prezi's and the rest was wrote on blogger as a means of mainly treatises and so was not much need for additional software.

Evaluation Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
After our box office statistical analysis we concludes comedy as ubiquitously enjoyed and so we propagated a number of different personas as an attempt to reach common ground with the audience and give relatable situations and characters for the audience to truly enjoy what they are seeing. We used characters to relate in this way:
Chelsea, she is representative of the strong isolated female community and general situation of the patriarchal society that Chelsea is a representation of, or as another perspective she is the anthropomorphism of the struggle of females in the patriarchal society as a function of creating an intrinsic link between the perceived femme fatales in the wider society or feminist and it shows their struggle and that we support them, in doing this it helps us to relate and support to that struggle of them fighting the wider society around her as we show her in a patriarchal household but it represents Chelsea as the dominant one.
Jack, he is representative of the stereotypicaly younger generation as seen by the older generation that practice chronocentrism (the belief their time zone is better than any other) it appeals to the older generation as it means that they can look down on Jack and how he is represented as he is of slobbing attitude and fits the older generations stereotypes of younger people.
Toni, people that relate to this are the more younger audience males and females as females may see him as a good sporty man that females may like whereas males may see him as themselves as they may be trying to be sporty and slightly vain.
Martin, he is representative again of the older generations stereotypical view of the younger people however the geeky type the ones that religiously play video games and have no external enjoyment derived from the outside world so he is representative of this included of the other type of youth stereotype of Jack.
Barry, intrinsically he is the manifestation of the chav stereotype or the chav subculture infused into our film as a wider representative way to link with the subculture on a grand population scale also the other population mostly look down on this subculture as a whole and so people will enjoy the destruction of how appealing the Barry is.
The questions asked whats your favorite genre?
What would you want to see in a comedy film?
What are you bored of seeing?
Do you like comedy films?

The questions asked whats your favorite genre?
What would you want to see in a comedy film?
What are you bored of seeing?
Do you like comedy films?
We asked these questions as a way of ascertaining peoples belief and current skepticism of what is classed as a good comedy film.
Whats your favorite genre was responded as comedy so it worked quite well.
The most wanted aspect in the comedy genre people wish to see is the element of jokes, how they are set up and presented as dark humor is something we should avoid, clever jokes with visual stimuli is something to be considered.
People are bored of seeing the action genre and something more basic like what we have made.
actors such as Will Ferrell obviously is enjoyed as he is normally immature and presented to be rather dim-witted as some of our characters have been presented effectively.
We modeled our production to suit the fact they do not want dark humor and to have visual aid to go with to humorous jokes derived from situations that people may either relate too or may have a negative view on the generalization of our characters and may want to laugh at them.
Music was upbeat and gave off a happy feeling to appease some of our recipients to the interview who watched comedy films as they give off a good feeling that they liked so it was natural for the music to be upbeat in support of this and to convey that the film is going to have a happy atmosphere and ambiance to the rest of it.
The dialogue used was what could be regarded as witty and responded to situational visual stimulus to create a more humorous outlook on the clean(ish) humor demanded by our interview and no dark jokes as this was requested to not be in it by our recipients.

Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
In
order to answer this the work on Target audience needs to be utilized to
understand the comments/references backed up by the statistical data in the box
office research.
Box Office Research.
This graph shows the percentage of genre people enjoy watching, it shows that comedy is the most enjoyed genre at a figure of 64% a difference of 4% compared to the next most enjoyed genre of adventure.
The most least enjoyed genre is Nollywood that only 1% of the great British sample of over 16 year old enjoy.
Pure comedy compared to its Rom-com hybrid genre is enjoyed by 27% more than Rom-com at a lower figure of comedy's 64% with Rom-com's 37%
This shows that we should avoid Romantic themes in our comedy.
This graph shows a full breakdown by demographics and market segments. Our genre, comedy, is shown to be typically enjoyed by both males and females in any age, however comedy is most loved by females under 35 years old (78%) and least loved by males under 35 (53%).
Another genre under these conditions is romantic comedy, with the figure for females under 35 being 61% and males under 35 being 16%. However the amount of females under 35 for people who enjoy romantic comedies is smaller than the ones who enjoy pure comedies showing this may be an area to avoid in our chosen target audience.
This graph shows the amount of people who believe the genre picked is their favorite genre. Comedy once again is at the top with 31% of people having it as their favorite, this is a big demographic opportunity as comedy covers more than a quarter of the market for films compared with its next competitor the thriller/suspense genre being 26%, this and comedy make half the film market and since are very different it is easy for the audience to chose which one they want more and comedy being more preferred, means they will more likely pick comedy over the thriller/suspense.
This graph shows the full breakdown of demographics and market segments for people who consider these genres their favorite For comedy once again it is the females under 35 years old at a figure of 48% this is almost half the female under 35 potential audience. However in this graph it shows females over 35's as comedy being their least favorite genre at a figure of 24%. comedy is favored by parents (32%) however this is not a significant difference as non parents' figure is 30%. People classified in the C2 category favors comedy compared to the others at a figure of 35%.
Our chosen genre is comedy, the target audience for this can be males and females of all ages as it a well liked genre by everybody however females under 35 are more likely to watch comedies and so will primarily target these people. Peoples social class is most likely to be C2, it is liked by this the most, this consists of skilled workers i.e. plumbers. Comedy is popular with people with or without kids and so will target both.
The two options to target and audience are these.
The two options to target and audience are these.
Demographics.
Age - Our film is aimed at Teenagers who enjoy these types of films such as
Ted or American pie as the humour is more targeted for older people but the
content is more for younger people so it settles in equilibrium at teenagers
(14-19), however our secondary audience may be people who are just under
(providing parental acknowledgement of such) and people just over the teenage
mark, as it may measure to their maturity level and not their actual age.
Social Class - Our primary social
class targeted would be working class as it is a down to earth film that includes what upper classes would
consider grimy and immature however our secondary may in fact be middle class
as some may be individually percieved supiriors and may watch film as a way of
laughing at the lower class.
Gender - Our primary gender targeted is under 35 females as they have
proven from box office statistics to be the ones who enjoy and prefer comedy
the most however our secondary audience for gender is everyone else as everyone
else enjoys comedy.
No real ethnicity has been targeted in relation to this as no
ethnocentrisity is included therefor unnanimously targeted.
Psychographics.
as in our film we have multiple characters to respond to multiple types of
viewers who have all different likes and dislikes ect, we have to target almost
anything in the psychographs range and since that is near impossible the best
we can do is not disavow anything in this respect.
Classification.
This picture is a representation of our target audience being males and females under 35 however with a little more of an edge towards females but however comedy is ubiquitously enjoyed by everybody and so mainstream as a dichotomy to niche.
Pictures like this can amplify psychographic information needed to bolster the connexity of the target audience work for our opening two minutes by amplifying the clothes, personalities and behavioral patterns.

Some psychographic information obtained is they may be more extricate a dichotomy of intricate, however this only a trend and so can be enjoyed by these people. However since in comedy there is superfluity of enjoyment involved in the genre, the older generation may be non intrinsically interested in the comedy film however they still may be interested in the film. this would suggest that age restricted trends do not apply to a comedy opening, suggesting that latest fads do not apply to the film and that obsolescent objects and ideals do not apply dramatically to a comedy film providing that any younger or antiquated material does not revolve around the film opening changing age equilibrium out of balance and therefor limiting satisfaction the the recipients of media texts
Most of these people are young kids who obviously will go online mostly and so advertising of Facebook should be revised. the obsolescent of our target audience will not be, or not very much, be online and so will have to use other advertising means such as program referral on existing television films and programs as to create a dichotomy between fully aware of the film and total vacuum of knowledge based on this. and so must be tactically enhanced to reach maximum realization of our film. The advert will go in between family shows however ones that also target 16 or over which can be identified by the BBFC rating of the film or program that is classified as family for example Shaun of the dead, a comedy film to be enjoyed however has a theme of horror and so forth not preferred for kids.
Since we used a representative group of people in the film it is better to enshroud their personas to intrinsically link towards the audience watching.
Psychographics of this particular group are people who are rather immature and so swears and slander may link towards them these people have interests such as video games as a major one so Martin will be used to relate to them, Barry relates to the more female aspiring audience who may be the same as Barry. Jack relates to the slobbing nature of our probably younger audience, Tony for the sporty types that have to look after themselves everyday, whilst Chelsea supports the femme fatale and opposition to stereotypical men advances typical to woman.

Evaluation Question 2
How Does Your Media product represent particular social groups?
These different social groups include
Age, as we have not got no real different age differences in our media product there is no steriotypes of any older generation however due to the amount of younger adults or teenagers they are open to multiple interpretations as a whole on the contrary people will isolate and link individual behaviors to individual stimulants such as clothes they are wearing provides a certain personality.
Martin is the embodiment of the geek stereotype who we have reinforced by making him sit and play computer games and rejecting the outside world.
Jack is a slob shown by what he is watching and how he is eating but is not bald and really fat as the stereotype suggests so we have not really reinforced this stereotype but not exactly challenged it.
Toni being the sporty and vain one is not acting in the way you would expect him to be as he is not 'dainty' as people believe vain people to be and not as built as they are believed and so the stereotype is challenged
Chelsea's involvement in the opening is limited in terms of what we see of her however her voice is apparent in the narrative frequently so no real stimulus is shown to affect her personality so no real stereotype was presented.
Ethnicity, to prevent ethnocentrism we have included Ebony Dailey and she is portrayed as the victim to Barry showing her to be the innocent one shown by the intertexuality of the girls red jacket through woodland and red riding hood this shows Barry to be the antagonist however if this challenges or supports a stereotype depends on the viewers own opinion as they may stereotypicaly believe them to be innocent or not.
Social class, In our media product the only social class is evidently working class and so igniting no class differences However using multiple people it shows different people along the Working class spectrum as in people who are the lowest of the spectrum like Barry and Jack compared to the people on the higher end of that spectrum like Chelsea.
Sexuality, there is no different sexuality other than straight in this film and that is not so apparent as the opening does not focus on what sexuality people are in the film opening and no steriotypes are used or challenged.
Gender, there are much more males in the opening then females, the females shown are shown as unfortunate people as one gets slapped inappropriately and one has to move out into a house with these men. The men in the opening are open to multiple interpretations as the men are portrayed in a wide variety of ways so some meets some steriotypes and challenges some of the typical mans attitudes and beliefs ect. picture of reinforced and negative stereotype.
Physical ability, everyone in the film is able bodied and no mention of disability is mentioned either to avoid any discrimination or accidentally upsetting someone.
Technical choices when seeing.
Barry, it starts as a close up to show him smoking a long shot of the girl walking by him and his responses to it shown by him staring at her followed by short takes of him following the girl building tension to climax at a humorous slap. Natural light is used to promote a happy atmosphere for the film.
Martin, A pan of the whiteboard Martin owns reveals tons of things that come under the stereotype geeky, and a shot reverse shot is used to show geeky reactions to the possibility of girls. the lighting was artificial low key lighting to show his dark, dreary computer world and changed to artificial high key lighting as the door opening to show the connection coming from the outside world to his world and how much better and brighter the outside world was.
Jack, No fancy lighting or camera techniques were used in jacks scene just the bear minimum to get the point across, the only distinct thing used was the tilt at the time of Jack looking down and the camera provides a point of view shot from Chelsea however this did help to understand Chelsea's relationship to Jack.
Chelsea, Chelsea has limited appearance in the opening as video footage of her is very limited the only real shot of Chelsea is a mid shot of her packing just to show that she is moving and who she is.
The sound played when seeing ALL of these is either dialogue or the happy music given the task of keeping the sound fluent though fluctuating volume levels at different time intervals.
In conclusion we have no real steriotypes that are produced to be in bad taste and seem to be just the generalizations that the majority of people agree too and we only use steriotypes and not developed upon them further and in many cases have not even used the full steriotypes as an effort to keep the film opening clean of discrimination and to make it funny and appealing to all as the target audience research suggests.
Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Conventions of film openings are included in this prezi
Seeing how our chosen genre is comedy some conventions are representitive only of comedy these include the contents of the following Essay.
In our film opening we have
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->An establishing shot.
This is used to Ascertain The Location used for the following scenes whilst using mise en scene of the shot to present the genre, this convention is used and reproduced in our film opening, This is good as it polymerises two distinct conventions that are nessesities to any media product however In doing so this could rush the opening and present it in a more trailer fashion.
this is done by various ways almost ubiquitous throughout our film presented in ways such as: the happy bright colorful mise en scene the same as you would find in any other film (Picture of happy bright scene in real media product and our product), another idea built on from real media products. Advantages of this include A clear way of presenting the genre to the audience and ascertaining the main prospect of the film, however the genre is a targeted promotion in order not to present the wrong genre and/or sub genre such as black comedy or slapstick comedy, however our film i believe has done so through the jokes, language and laughter derived from humorous occasions.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Non diegetic sound.
In our film we used music in the background to promote the happy ambiance throughout the opening, this is used through other real media products, The benefits of this include the genre being laid out and shown to the audience from the start, however the volume had to be moderated and revised in certain areas of the editing process as to propagate a good piece of work however this takes up a lengthy period of time as it must be changed to perfect it so maybe is not practical.
In many comedy films including Step Brothers and Jack and Jill, the opening is rushed as they plan to push the background to the story out to derive a firm simple grasp of it so the film can jump right into the film and grab the attention of the audience from the start. (insert youtube clip of jack and jill opening. this is a existing convention we have used as a way of showing it's a comedy film and it is also a great way to catch attention of audiences whilst providing a unique outlook for the opening to become faster paced and to have more going on in it then other genre's without it being like a movie trailer.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Narrative
We used a narrative in our film to go with conventions of a comedy film as in using this it can help produce a fast paced introduction and help make it clearer however we have developed upon this slightly and instead of making it diegetic sound or even text narrative it is non diegetic sound and accompanied by clips that relate as such to the narrative this is good as the clips are explained fully and are used intertwined with one another to intrinsically propagate humorous back and forth from the situations the characters find themselves in, however the narrative over the top with dialogue in it may just be too packed with dialogue then preferred.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Plot fashion, Todorov Vs Propp.
Todorov's ideal is that linear structure of a film being of stages, these stages are equilibrium, disruption, climax, resolution then new equilibrium.
Propp's ideal is a character list that are in play like the prince/protagonist, princess, antagonist ect.(list)
Our film relates more to Todorov then Propp as our film has most of his structure however this has been developed upon as to fit with the comedy genre of fast paced opening, so we do not have much of an old equilibrium as it is only explained breifly through narrative. this is good as still uses Todorov's ideals however discarding one of them however because there is no old equilibrium the understanding and desire for the new equilibrium and is not that apparent as the audience hasn't seen much of it.
Editing.
The editing used is nothing fancy or distracting from the fast paced introduction so it doesn't distract the audience from the faint briefing of the background and so only as straight cuts instead, we have also animated the production logo at the start to add a sleight more flair to the opening this helps the look of the production however may take up a lenghty period of the editing process prohibiting other adjustments of the opening.
Sound.
The sound used is mostly dialgue both non diegetic and diegetic throughout the opening however there is music all the way through the piece to establish the genre and give it a joyful feel to the opening. the good points of this is that it meets a variety of conventions such as establishing the genre, non diagetic sound, a faced past introduction however the mixture of sound must be accuratly intertwined with one another to propagate maximum impact which can be difficult to do.
Mise en scene.
Costume.
Since we have a wide variety of characters Lots of costumes were revised and rejected so for our character Chelsea, we used a regular rather common apparel to present her as a common regular generalisable girl to the rest of the female population who we targetised to be relatable from the perspective of femme fatales and people like that however this may just appear to be lazy as if we were to explore more we may of found an apparel that was a better choice for her but this may have took more time then nessesary.
Barry has dark clothes as he is portrayed as the undesirable one so black suited him also the clothes themselves are stereotypicaly chavvy and so he carries all the thoughts and generalizations that follow it however this could support negative steriotypes of chavvy clothes.
Martin is wearing clothes that are worn in formal attire connoting he is uptight and retained which represents how he is in life and in general however wrong assumptions could be made by some of the audience maybe thinking that he came from a meeting or something different giving the wrong impression of Martin.
Jack, he was chosen to wear a top that is immature in nature for someone of his age so he is wearing a smurf shirt, the reason for this was so it connotes his likes and sheds a little light on his personality however it does not intrinsically link to slob nature.
Tony, he is wearing the traditional sporty clothes as he is the sporty one so it was really obvious to put him in those clothes as it intrinsically links to sports and the stereotype that sporty people are vain, however since it is so regular it is not very creative. An idea shown from Run Fat-boy Run is the prop idea of the headphones which could be another idea to represent Tony as the sporty one.Barry has dark clothes as he is portrayed as the undesirable one so black suited him also the clothes themselves are stereotypicaly chavvy and so he carries all the thoughts and generalizations that follow it however this could support negative steriotypes of chavvy clothes.
Martin is wearing clothes that are worn in formal attire connoting he is uptight and retained which represents how he is in life and in general however wrong assumptions could be made by some of the audience maybe thinking that he came from a meeting or something different giving the wrong impression of Martin.
The lighting is almost always natural light as the more natural and less artificial effects the more people can focus on the plot and the ideals needed in a fast paced introduction however there is a smudge or artificial light in martins scene, this is used to signify a metaphysical bridge between Martins dark lonely game playing life and connecting it with the outside world.
Sara-Lea Hirstwood/Chelsea, obviously without celebrity status our actors themselves do not connote anything however Sara has a femme fatale ideology which was perfect to flow into Chelsea naturally as Sara is herself a girl who is small in stature but strong in willpower which is exactly what we were looking for in Chelsea.
Blayze White/Jack, Blayze was a good choice as he himself is a little slobbish obviously exaggerated for the purpose of the film opening but it wasn't too difficult for him to act this out.
Callum Kelly/Barry, Callum in himself is not in anyway the character he portrays he would not do anything of the sort shown in the film however he could act extremely well for the purpose of what we needed to do.
James Ward/Martin, James does play some video games and does have a moderate understanding of these topics and so he was chosen for this role.
Ebony Dailey/The girl, not a very good name title but she is the girl who has her behind slapped by Barry, she was chosen as to prevent ethnocentrism is the film, she was also one of the only girls we could find who was okay with us filming her having her behind slapped.
Make up
No make-up was used in this opening scene to create a natural down to earth look that we needed to relate to others and to create natural beauty.
Props
props used in the film are things such as the TV playing Man V Food for intertexuality, a phone,a ciggerette, suitcase, Pringles,Computers ect.
TV and the Pringles were used to show Jacks slobbish nature and a quick portrayal of his life and what he does in his spare time shown by what he watches being about food and not exactly healthy decent sized portions the biggest super sized portions that drip with fat, much like our character himself an addition to the way that he eats the pringles all enshroud each other to create this sloppy character.
The phone and ciggerette was a way of showing Barry in his own environment with the ciggerette and the phone just for him to fiddle and to show he cannot sit still for long and how he drops whatever he's doing because a girl has walked by. the suitcase had no real significance other than connoting she is moving out.
Setting
The locations did not change much, the typography was almost the same, most scenes were filmed at either Sara's house or outside Sara's house, at the park near Sara's house, the only scene not filmed there was Martin's scene whereby it was shot at our schools media office as it was filled with computers and tech stuff.
In conclusion our media product does not challenge or develop on many idea existing from real media products and we go along with the existing ideas and developments and use them to formulate our product this is good as we know the conventions work and are tried and tested however that does mean we have not been creative enough with our film opening and so must improve it by being more creative in other parts.
